Many K-16 math teachers know what they should be doing in the classroom, but barriers can occur when implementing innovative pedagogy. The Mathematics Educator Exchange at Fairfield University aims to bridge the gap between theory and practice. The Exchange will host an inaugural one-day conference uniting educators across grade levels, teacher preparation, and higher education to share practical strategies, research-based practices, and inspiring visions for current and future mathematics education. Participants will leave empowered with practical, up-to-date teaching strategies they can implement immediately in their classrooms while networking with fellow math educators. The keynote address will be from Dr. Melissa Boston, Professor of Mathematics Education at Duquesne University and co-author of Taking Action: Implementing the Effective Mathematics Teaching Practices. Dr. Boston is also a former president of the National Council of the Teachers of Mathematics.
